In the past week, I’ve finished the rough draft of one picture book, made it up to a word count of 99 (ahem,

) on another, and started yet another picture book (I’m already up to 129 words on it, not all great words, but words that give some sense of form to the thing).
At this rate, I’ll never finish my novel.

I know. I haven’t been avoiding you. But I’ve seriously made no progress, novel-wise. I started to send you 10 pb words last week but I figured I’d make a little more progress first. 🙂
You are a picture book-writing fool. Maybe your mind needed a bit of distraction while the “back room” mulls the novel. You’ll get back to it soon.
I think you’re right. I also think that my kiddos are on summer break from school and it has seriously impaired my ability to work on the novel. I’ve become aware that it takes more quiet and “mind-wandering” time for me to produce anything novel-wise. PBs aren’t necessarily easy. I’m just more willing to risk putting words on the page with a pb than I am with a novel.
oh yeah! You said it. I’m the same way. Novels, especially 1st drafts, take chunks of time. Picture books I can work on in bits and pieces.
